Acerca de esta herramienta
Two questions come up every term. What is my grade right now, and what do I need on the final? This page answers both. Switch between them with the tabs at the top, and the numbers update as you type.
The weighted tab is a small table: one line per assignment, with the score you got and how much that piece counts. Homework worth 20%, a midterm worth 30%, a project worth 50%. The result shows the weighted average, the letter it earns, and the total weight your rows add up to. If those weights come to 90% or 110% instead of 100%, a line under the result says so, because that usually means a row is missing. Rows with a blank score or weight are skipped rather than counted as zero, so a half-finished table still shows where you stand.
How do I type a score?
Whichever way your teacher wrote it. A plain number works (92), so does a percentage (92%), and so do raw points (45/50, which the page reads as 90%). Letters work too: type B+ and it counts as 88.5%, the middle of the B+ band. Commas work as decimal points for anyone who writes 87,5 rather than 87.5.
Letters use the standard US A to F scale with pluses and minuses: 97 and up is an A+, 93 is an A, 90 is an A-, 87 a B+, and so on down to 60 for a D-. Anything under 60 is an F. Plenty of schools shift these lines by a point or two, so check your syllabus before you rely on the letter.
What do I need on the final?
Type your grade so far, how much the final exam is worth, and the grade you are aiming for. The page works out the score the exam has to get, from one line of arithmetic: your course grade is your current grade times the part of the term already graded, plus the final times its own share.
Sometimes a number is the wrong answer. If the target is already safe even with a zero on the final, the page says that. If a perfect final still falls short, it says that too and shows the best grade you can still reach. A line underneath gives both ends of the range: where you land with a zero, and where you land with 100%.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser as you type. Your scores are never sent to a server, never stored, and there is no account. Nothing about your grades leaves your device.
Students use this before an exam week, parents use it to see whether a bad quiz really matters, and teachers use it to check a grade book column. The maths is an ordinary weighted mean. The point of the page is that you do not have to build the spreadsheet yourself.
